RampVR is launched at IGHC Bangkok 2017
IATA announced the launch of RampVR™, the latest innovation in ground operations training through virtual reality. We are glad to have been part of this project over the last couple of months. This is the first VR project focused on transforming current training and operation procedures across an industry. The annual damage caused to aircraft by GSE movements is over $ 3 billion, RampVR will help tackle and resolve this significant training, safety and cost issue.
RampVR was developed established by IATA in consultation with airlines, airports and ground service providers to meet their training needs while reducing the burden of accessing the ramp for training (security, safety, availability of aircraft, etc.).
During the launch at IATA Ground Handling Conference in Bangkok, Nick Careen, IATA’s Senior Vice President, Airport, Passenger, Cargo and Security, stressed that: “Talent development is essential to making our industry safe, secure, and sustainable. Innovative technology is the key. VR in the learning context increases knowledge retention by as much as four times while improving motivation and engagement. VR is here to stay and we are already considering expanding its use in different training areas”.
